About me

Well I have good news and bad news. The good news is my 18 year old son, Kyle just graduated at the top of his class, all A's, 4.0. He has been accepted at the University of Michigan and intends to study cellular and molecular biology. I couldn't be more proud!
The bad news is at the end of April my husband lost his job. He worked at Unisys for 27 years and was a director of IT. We knew friends and family members who had lost their jobs. We listened as they described the changes and challenges they were now dealing with. Literally overnight our lives were turned upside down and we became one of Michigan's statistics.
I feel fortunate to have a job and I will complete my masters in December.

  1. It's wonderful to hear about your son, Kyle. You must be very proud of him. As a high school library media specialist, I know that was no small feat for him to graduate at the top of his class. I am also sorry to hear about your husband losing his job. I hope he can find something else soon. I know a lot of families right now that are going through similar situations and it's tough. I'm a single parent so I know how hard it is to financially support a family on one income. Good luck! Hope things turn around soon!

  2. I am sorry I'm posting my comment to the wrong post, but for some reason, I couldn't comment on your other one.

I think you raise an EXCELLENT point about showcasing student work! I think the idea of an e-portfolio is fabulous. I think that it's extremely important to teach our students to take pride in their work. I think that if students know their work will be on display, they are more likely to take care in doing their best work. It also helps create a sense of accomplishment which inevitably will boost their confidence in their abilities. I think portfolios are also nice because they give students the chance to share a wide variety of skill sets. While some students may have a portfolio showcasing poetry or essays, other students may have one with art projects or music awards. I think that if we teach students to tap into their own uniqueness, it will help get them more engaged and interested in school.
